pasting something into a text box in MS Access

I am working the Ceil Inn tutorial as shown in the location

    http://www.functionx.com/access/appl...ns/ceilinn.htm

Now I am filling I the Ceil Inn Occupancy Form and I must
input several lines of code for txtEmployeeName 's control source.

I have found it easiest to simply copy and paste it from the tutorial into my working example.

But, I cannot paste anything into my text box in form design on the Ceil Occupancy in my working example.

I cannot paste anything into it and I am quite confused.

I did it one time (pasted into a text box), but after that it has been impossible to paste anything into a text box.

    What is wrong?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Respectfully,

    Lou_Reed

Are you able to make other changes? Or are you completely locked from making any changes to the Form? If you are prevented from making any changes whatsoever, there could be some form of corruption.

Try running a Compact & Repair on the database and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, you will need to post a copy of your database here (if possible) so we can take a look at it.

If you do decide to post a copy of your database for us to look at, be sure to remove any private or proprietary information first!

I have found that if I paste a copy it into the control source area in the properties window that it will work. I can do it. I am just not sure
why I cannot paste it into the design form itself. I see from a web search that it has happened to other people as well.

    Any reason why this is?

Please find compacted Ceil Inn tutorial file

Here is the compacted Ceil In database file.

My Ceil Inn : occupancy form does not look (when in form mode) anything like it does in
in the tutorial. It looks okay in the design view however. Also why can I not paste to text box in design view. I can paste
the area Control Source in properties view, but not in the design view form itself.

    James,
I looked at the form and table and see a couple of errors

    1) You have not have all of the fields to the table "Occupancies". There should be 7 more fields.

    2) You have confused a Label control with a Text box control.
Label controls have Caption properties and Text box controls have Control Source properties.
Usually, the label is on the left and the text box is to the right.

    3) In other controls, there are Text box controls when they should be Label controls.

MS Access 201 the right version for this?

I am working the Ceil Inn tutorial found online as previously stated. I am at the point where I create a copy of the Occupancies form and name it NewOccupancy.
Then in the navigation pane as per the Ceil Inn tutorial right click NewOccupancy and then click Design New. Then in the properties window I am to change
    Modal : Yes
    Auto Center: Yes
    Border Style: Dialog
    Navigation Buttons: No
    Data Entry: Yes

I would love to do that except hose option are not present in the Design New in the properties window.
    They are simply not there.

Is this input possible in Microsoft Access 2010? The Ceil Inn tutorial does not say which version of Microsoft Access 2010 to use.

    I just cannot find them.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

which version of Microsoft Access 2010 to use.
Doesn't matter - those properties are in the same place as in A2007,2003, 2002, 2000.

In design view, make sure you have selected the form. Open the properties dialog box.
    Click on the:
    Other tab: Modal
    Format tab: Auto Center
    Format tab: Border Style:
    Format tab: Navigation Buttons
    Data tab: Data Entry

You MUST have the form selected. (click in the upper left hand corner of the form where the square box is)

You reply shows that Model, AutoCenter, Border Style, Navigation Buttons, Data Entry are not on Microsoft Access 2010.

They have as you said Other tab, Format tab, Format tab, Format tab, Format tab and Data tab. Did it change on MS Access 2010?

Either way I am not finding these whether the old or the new.

    Where are they?

No, I meant the properties are in the same place for those versions IN ADDITIONAL to A2010.

I just checked the dB you posted in post #4 and those properties are there and visible in ALL of the forms.

I have noticed in the instructions for the Ceil Inn tutorial that it says

In the Navigation Pane, right click NewOccupancy and click Design New. I assumed this was a typo and actually right click NewOccupancy and click Design View. Is this a typo or is it accurate?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

It looks to me like there are a couple of typos

    Under the heading
    Practical Learning: Assigning a Room
    37. In the Navigation Pane, right-click NewOccupancy and click Design New
    and under the heading
    Practical Learning: Making Payments
    22. In the Navigation Pane, right-click NewPayment and click Design New
I think you are right: "New" should be "View"

I have never seen "Design NEW" in a right click menu.
