Update combobox selection for new entries

Hi there. I'm quite new to Access and have a problem I was hoping you could help me with?
We have a log section which shows the employee initials. For new logs, I would like the combo box to just show current staff. If a create a query and filter 'Leavers', then previous log entries have the staff initials missing. I'm guessing there is some macro 'update filter' I can use ?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After reading this post serveral times, I am still confused about what you are asking. Can you show some example what you are trying to do and possibility post your database (remove anything that is confidential, secret, personal, etc before posting)?
