    Why code completion duration vary?

    Hi,

Today I was capturing the time it takes to complete a number of iterations in a nested for loop. I am doing this to check if the duration is consistent for a given number of iterations doing the same actions. If consistent I can confirm if my changes to optimise the loops are working?

I ran it 4 times and got a consistent duration of 400 seconds. So far so good. However, when I did this later in the day while off my work network the same number of iterations doing the same actions took 700 secs consistently 3-4 times.

I checked the running processes on the laptop and there was nothing unusual occurring.

What could be the cause for the increase in time to perform the same thing?

CPU speed, other processing running that are taking up resources, connection setup (local vs network location), could be any number of things.

When disconnected from a network, Access still tries to connect to the network, especially if you have mapped network drives. Checking to see if those mapped drives have become attached/online again takes time.
