access/sql server tuning - when does it pull all data?

I have an access db with linked tables to SQL SERVER (2008) .
How does one identify when is a query downloads a full table instead on having SQL Server executing the query and sending the fraction of data ?

I have been looking at this article but still ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...,printer).aspx ) is not clear what indicates the download of the data ?

    thanks,

if the Query that puls the data is stored in access then the hole table is transferd over the network, else if it is stored into the sql serve the only the result of the query is transferd over the network
