Can DLOOKUP be used in query criteria to get comparative values for a search form?

Hello all, amateur user looking for help.
I have two tables, tblObject with archaeological objects and tblDating with prehistoric periods and corresponding time-intervals, expressed as a start year and an end year (ie Period: Bronze Age is Interval1: -1700 and Interval2: -500).

I am making a query to search for specific objects from tblObject, in which the datings of objects are saved as prehistoric periods (ie Object: Flint axe, Start Date: Late Stone Age, End Date: Early Bronze Age). But I would like for the search to look up the corresponding Interval1 for the start date and Interval2 for the end date and compare them to values entered in a search form. I have both tables with relations in my query.
Is this possible, and would DLOOKUP be the best way to do it?
Additional question, how much code can the criteria field in the query handle, and would this be done better in vba?

    Many thanks.
