Two questions about linked tables in Access, please.

    I have two questions.

My table is linked and to change a field it must be done on the backend. So I open the database to the backend and create the field. However when I reopen the frontend the table has not changed. The backend has. I tried using the link manager and checked its box and used it, but the linked table did not change. I also tried to delete the link and lost the table somewhere. I had a backup though. How do I make the front end reflect the change of the backend, please?

My second question is that I deleted the data of a linked table on the frontend and I need to recreate it from the backend. I can open the backend table fine, using Microsoft button and open, but I don't know how to copy the table with all the data to be the new front end table. I need help please.

    Thank you,

Question 1: delete the linked table from the FrontEnd and then using the Linked Table Manager, link just that table again. It will now include the new field you created.
Question 2: Just *import* the table from the FrontEnd and then delete it in the FE and Link it.

Question 1 : I deleted the linked table and it didn't show up in the link manager after right and then left click?

Question 2 : delete the old table and link the new?

    (Using Access 2007)

    Thank You,

You would need to point to the BE in the Linked Table Manager and then select the table you want to link. Q2: Don't do anything here until we understand the process first.

The new field should have shown up automatically. Always works for me. If compact and repair does not resolve, I suspect some sort of corruption.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

These questions seem to be very difficult to get detailed simple answers too, it seems like people use phrases that I don't understand.

    On another note,

Question 2: Just *import* the table from the FrontEnd and then delete it in the FE and Link it.

I don't understand this at all! import and then delete it?

Rural Guy, I don't understand your post, and I don't understand 'point'

Could you all be super descriptive, please?

Okay! On Q1, the linked table manager (LTM) should allow you to point to the backend (BE). Is that true?

When you bring up the LTM, doesn't it allow you to "select" (point) where the tables are located?
