Cannot add new field to existing database - get field is corrupted error

I am new to Access and each time I use it, it is both frustrating and educational. I am trying to create a database/form, etc., but I keep thinking of fields to add. I have had to restart the database several times because it seems that unless I remember EVERY field I want to add at the start, I can-not add any new fields after it's saved! I keep getting this error: "Cannot use database "Field 1." It may not be a database that your application recognizes or the file may be corrupt."

WHY do I keep getting this and HOW can I fix it? Thanks!

*Import* your db into a fresh new db and see if the problem follows.
