    Pie Chart Labels

I have a pie chart that is built from the results of a query. The query asks for a date range, that then will compile the results of three fields, and any combination of the results from three fields.
so for example, as i cannot post the type of information I am looking at here.
    We have dates from
    01-oct-10 thru 01-oct-14
and bob, mary and joe which are all fields that say YES or NO

i need events that occurred between 01-feb-12 and 01-mar-12.
my pie chart may only show
5 events that occurred, and if there was ONE Bob, One Bob and Joe, and One Bob and Mary, my legend or labels would have only 3 fields.
but there may be a bob, a bob and mary, a bob mary and joe, a bob and joe, and a mary and joe, thereby resulting in 5 slices, 5 parts to legend, 5 labels.
the problem is if I try to assign a label in chart design view, it drops upon reopening.
If i just edit text in the chart itself, that label is locked to bob and mary, but my next query will not have any results for bob and mary, so the label is wrong!!!
Why can we not assign labels to the query itself (Bob&Mary:expr) and Bob&Mary is the defacto label..
This is one confusing post, sorry

Post the sql of the graph. Label captions should come from the data.

I analyze graph issues best when I can work with data. If you want to provide db, follow instructions at bottom of my post.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
