Access 2007 file size vs Excel

I have a data base that I made using data imported from 2 similar but different Excel spreadsheets. When I save the Acess file, it's files size is more than 10X the size of the 2 spreadsheets put together. Access = 103MB Excel files= 7MB. This seems rather strange to me. Is this condition normal? If not what could be the cause?

RuralGuy: Thanks alot that fixed it. After Compact the total file size is now 15MB. Much more in line with my expectations. Thanks for your help!

Access has no automatic internal organizer to reclaim space. That is why the C&R is included.
