Connecting Access to SQL Server (Static IP)

    Hi All,

I am migrating the MSAccess to SQL server. I am able to connect MSAccess with SQL Server within my LAN.

I just want to know wether the MSAccess can be connected to SQL Server which is hosted in static ip (different location). The Access forms are in one location i.e in India, but the SQL Server is located in US.

    Regards
    Anbu.

Access is not designed for the BackEnd files to be located across a WAN. A private corporate WAN of sufficient bandwidth & speed that acts like a LAN can work. Otherwise it will time out and hang.

If you need to sync common table data among geographically separated Access dbs you can explore the service from www.AccessTables.com or consider setting up a Sharepoint hub and using the online/offline work feature embedded in Access07.accdb that is a form of replication.

As I am able to link MSAccess to the SQL database from LAN, my business expects the MSAccess Forms to use the SQL database that is hosted in a dedicated server i.e located in different geographical Location.

Hope it should work. Please correct me if i am wrong.

    Regards,

Access is designed for the front end and back end files to be on the same LAN.

It probably will not work across a WAN, because it is not designed to work across a WAN.
