    Access 2010-runing old files

My club uses an Access program for race management that I developed with A2000 (W2000) many years ago. That computer was later replaced with a machine with XP and A2003. In recent years, I continued development/changes with my home machine, 64 bit, A2007, W2007. All three of these computers handled the program with no problem..

We have just replaced the XP machine with a new computer running Office 2010 on W8, 64 bit. When I try to open the program, I get an "initializing" message screen. If I click " enable content" I can open a form, but code actuating buttons do nothing. When I somehow get to click repair/compile, I will finally get a message that the code must be updated for a 64 bit system. I get this even though the file was saved on my 64 bit A2007 computer as accdb. It works there, why not on 2010?

I can't believe that msoft would throw this kind of curve at us. If I removed Office 2010 and installed Office 2007 on the windows 8 machine would same thing happen? Any ideas? This is a disaster. We have 60 or so old Access files that we need to refer to now and then. This appears to say they are unavailable to us on the new computer.

    Any help much appreciated.

Do dbs created in the Windows 8 environment run properly?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Perhaps a missing reference? You mention 64bit. Are you referring to the OS or Office/Access. I have not played around with W8 yet. Do the W8 machines use a full version of Access? If not, perhaps you could force A2007 32bit runtime on the machine.

Appreciate reply, but not clear. "Full version"-is their any other kind? Have no way to know if access is 32 or 64. As described above, it runs on both

You can download Access 2007 and 2010 runtime for free. There are 32 bit and 64 bit versions, same as office. Not sure how office installs on W8 but, there should be an option to install as 32 bit.

If you are running Access 2010, it should be backward compatible for files created with 2007. Using 2010 to create certain macros can cause issues for machines with 2007 installed.

You want to make sure there are not any missing references on the new machine. Also, some features available in 32bit versions are not available in 64bit versions. I don't recall what they are.

Bottom line, you need to find what part of your file is not working and change that part to a method that works across the different platforms.
