    Auto set field when pasting

Ok let me start off by saying this. I am starting with the Tasks database that comes with Access and modifing it. The first form you have is a split view form. You can click on the ID to open a popup form to enter the detail. What I have added is another button that opens a popup for a different table in split view (datasheet view). This table has a field that references the ID of the main table (the task table I started in). What I want to be able to do is paste data from a spreadsheet into this datasheet form and have the field auto populate with the ID you clicked on at the very beginning.

I have said all of that to ask this. I am guessing that I will not have the (I will call it taskreferenceID) listed in the datasheet. I want to be able to paste the data into the datasheet form and have the taaskreferenceId auto populate. Is this possible? Sorry if this is confusing.

I guess to give a suggestion, my idea would be to have it default to (*) or something then do a replace query and replace it with the ID.

I just did an afterupdate on a required field and used setvalue to the hidden field.
