My department is going to be upgrading (?) to Office 2010 in the near future, from Office 2003. I have been tasked with making sure our Access databases migrate with as little fuss as possible.
(One of Microsoft's goals appears to be to make it as difficult as possible for us developers to keep users out of places we don't want them to go, and in this they have succeeded!)
My application is designed such that users cannot get out of the forms into design view or "native" Access, and I do everything with custom menu bars. The issue with migration is that while custom menu bars can be migrated to A2010, they cannot (easily) be modified, or new ones created. I found it is easy enough to hide the ribbons and navigation pane completely, and that works fine, but now the problem:
Some of the procedures generate on-screen reports in print-preview mode. I would like users to be able to close and/or print the reports from a menu; in A2003 I used a custom menu, but in A2010 I don't have that, and I have to use the right-click shortcut menu. Is there a way of customizing a shortcut menu to have only the options I want? I know I can create one in A2003 and import it, but once we migrate, A2003 will go away.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
