    subreport link to parent report

I have a several subReports that I want to use in different parent reports; should be simple enough... The conflict I'm running into is that the subs seem to need (?) a query in their data source that references the parent report by name, as soon as I do that, the report really only works for the report it's referencing (?)

    is this correct?

do I need to be adding something in code?

    am I just wrong?

    many thanks in advance,
    Mark

I wouldn't think the subreport's query would need to reference the main report. Typically mine are either referencing a form where the user has made selections for their criteria, or I rely on the master/child links to keep the subreport in sync with the main report. Since those are a property of the control on the report, the subreport could be used on different reports.
