    Access 2010 to 2007 Incompatibility

Just designed a deployed a new database but unexpectedly any user on Access 2007 cannot open it properly. I verified that there are no compatibility issues specified in this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/cc907897.aspx, which seems to be the best resource for this issue.

The interface the user is presented is a combo box where they select the table they would like to reference and then click a button that will take them to either the Form View or Datasheet view. The combobox queries a table for its values and as soon as the user clicks that drop down they get "Unrecognized database" error.

    I'm stumped. Any ideas guys?

If you want to provide db, I will test in 2007. Follow instructions at bottom of my post.

Nope. Nevermind. Back to square one. Some Access 2010 users are getting the same error now. I verified that permissions on the back end file are properly setup for all the users so it can't be a permission issue.

And it just got weirder. I just tried a Compact and Repair, I got an error saying that it failed to compact and that it is going to save my database in .mdb format and delete my .accdb and then a second error window saying that it could not find the original file. I then opened the .mdb version, successfully performed a Compact and Repair on that then resaved it as an .accdb with the same original name. Despite all this the same users are still reporting the same problem....

Ok......going to pull my hair out. Nevermind again. It IS exclusive to 2007. I had two 2010 users reporting the error. One of them was opening the wrong database and the other didn't understand the concept of software versions.

Db opens fine in Windows 7 64-bit Access 2010 32-bit.

In Windows XP 32-bit Access 2007 32-bit I get warning: This database uses some features which may be incompatible with the current version of Microsoft Office Access. LinkedTableManager is not able to relink tables. Access 2007 not recognizing the backend file. Can't even open the backend.

Should develop db in the lowest version any of your target users has.

I know. I was told everyone was on 2010 so I didn't think anything of it. I ended up saving the backend as an .mdb and then resaving it as an .accdb. I'm testing the workflow right now to see if it broke anything.
