Apply filter based on dropdown selection from another query

I have a form that is based off a query and has a customer id. I use dlookup to show the customer name but I am not sure how to get a dropdown field the user can select to choose his/her customers. I would like to have a dropdown box that is based if a query of the customer names and when a customer is selected it applies a filter based on that selection. I am not sure if this can be done by using a form that is based on a query and i only based the form on the query (and not the table) because i thought i might want to add some query criteria later (like inactive vs active customer or something)
    thanks for any advice,
