Can Access be Used to Protect a Website?

As a basic question of possibility, I was wondering if anyone knew whether a website which is being hosted on a network server can be protected via Access, whereby users are granted/denied with implicit permission according to inclusion in a workgroup?



Ultimately, there's a website I'd like to protect simply via the action of adding/removing users to/from an Access group.
