    Simple stock keeping solution

    Hi,

I need to design a simple stock system within access. I want to create a table that will hold all of the products that we are supposed to receive and another to track the movements of those items (received, transferred, written off etc.) The main purpose is to be able to see how much stock is held in any given location and to be able to track the location of a particular item of stock.

I have designed something similar in excel but it is not quite as sophisticated or secure as I would like it to be and it is not easy to incorporate pictures.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think inventory databases are ever "Simple".
First decide what you want to track (not how yet) and to what detail.

    Then Google table normalization.
I think you will find it is a little more complex than you first thought.

Get your table correct before you start and it will save you a lot of headaches later.

Give us a post when you need help.

Have a look at the Allen Browne site. He has two examples that you could use.

    Thanks for your help, guys.

I've only really self taught a small amount of access to build a sales database (my company won't pay for a course) and at the moment I have designed an excel sheet to track the location of clothing samples that we receive seasonally.

This is sufficient for now but it is not as secure as I would like and it won't take long for it to get too big, which is why I want to be able to do something similar in Access.

I've attached the Excel sheet that I have made so that you can get an idea of the sort of thing I'm trying to do. I'm aware that the information I have on the data page will need splitting into different tables and but my problem is I need an item listing and an inventory and while I feel I could make the product master I am not confident of building something that would enable me to book these items in and transfer them between locations.

I hope I have managed to explain myself a little bit here, thanks for your help.
