Expression is Too Complex Error Message

I've written a fairly simple report that runs fine by itself. I added a fairly simple subreport in the Detail Section. When I run the subreport standalone, it runs fine and as expected. When I run the main report, the subreport borders appear, but no headings, data, etc. ...and no errors appear... just no data. I set a breakpoint in the subreport's Load event and it doesn't trigger. I have stripped out everything except three text boxes, same thing. If I open the main report in design mode and then try to go directly into Print Preview, I get the following message:

This expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated. For example, a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements. Try simplyfying the expression by assigning parts of the expression to variables.

Can anyone point me in the direction to find where this condition occurs so I can correct it?

    Thanks for your help. Eddie
