    Can't open database

I have problem once each day when I open Access for the first time. I get an error message "Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". It asks for a file name and insists on compacting (I think) and saving the database. I go through this several times saving it under a diferent name each time until I get the warning "Security warning Some active content has been disabled. Click for details." with a button to disable it. Any help is appreacted appreciated.

You may have a corruption issue with your database. If that is the case, you can do the following:
Open a brand new blank database, and import all your objects from the old one into the new one (and any Import/Export Specifications you may have).
Then start using the new database.

Ok, to import the database, do I just create another directory, then re-create all my tables and then import the data into them? And what about my forms and reports?

No, you can actually Import everything, table, reports, forms, queries, etc, data and all!
Just go to Import Access database, and browse to your original Access database, then select all the objects you want to import (Import/Export Specs can be found on the Advanced tabs).

There is actually very little you have to do manually. The only things which I usually have to do is go to Access Options and select the Startup Form, if you are using one, and select any other Options found under there which you want.

That has not cured the problem. Anything else I can try?

Do you want to provide the db for analysis? Follow instructions at bottom of my post.

I would like it taken care of. If I remove the confintial data, there won't be ant data left. Will that be a problem? This may take awhile.

Some dummy records might be useful, if the issue persists.

Maybe I am not exporting the database correctly (to get back to your original suggestion). I select 'External data', then 'Access'. A new window opens stating 'Get externation data'. It states 'specify source of the data'. I never get a chance to specify the destination for the data. And I don't have the Advanced tab you mentioned. I think I am missing something.

As RG's tutorial demonstrates - must create a new file first then import everything from the old file.

You can also try Third Party Access Recovery Software to repair your corrupt access database files & objects.

Do you have a colleague's machine you can try to open it from and see if the same thing occurs?

Ok, I put this on another computer. It has worked good without any problems for a week. Now back to my main computer, which is Windows XP and running Access 2010, The only way I can get it to workis to copy the database to a flash drive, then copy it back onto the same computer with a new name (in windows, not in Access). Then it runs fine. Of course it is after if get the security warning. And ideas?

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
