    Back up database

    Hi,

I need to take a back up of database, I come to know File -> Back up Database.
When i do this will all my access application be back up? like tables, forms, queries, macro's, modules and so on?

If i have to back up only tables what should i do? After i take back up how to delete the data from existing tables to make it fresh?

    Thanks in advance.

It backs up everything in the current db. If your tables are in there, they will be backed up. If they are in a separate db then you will need to open that db and use the backup from there.

    Thanks RG,

Is it posible to back up only tables data? if so is there any automatic function to do? or should i have to do it manually one table after other?

    Thanks again,

AFAIK there is no built in method to just back up the tables unless they are in a separate db.

    Hi RK,

My access application size is 194 mb, when i took back up of this application back up file size came to 74 mb.

I try to open the back up file but it gave me error as "This database is in an unexpected state; Microsoft Office Access can't Open it".

    Any help please...

    Thanks,

Does your mdb compile? Can you Compact and Repair and then use the mdb?

No, I can't even open it due to error.

I got one more question RG, I copied the database with a different file name in a different location so does it mean i had a back up of database?
As per my understanding i thought if i copy mdb files in a differnt locatiion i got a back up and so i started cleaning up the data in all the tables using querys. Now i went back to other locations and found there is no data.
Can you please help me out in this situation what to do. I also took database back up, which is giving error as i mentioned above.
    Thanks,

Using Windows to make a copy is a perfectly legal and proper way to back up the mdb. Do you have *any* copy that can be opened?

You started this thread with wanting to do a backup. We're on a completely different issue now. Is the problem changing or have you had this problem from the start? Do you think you have corruption?

Do you believe the tables in your mdb should have data in them? Have you tried creating a new empty mdb and IMPORTING everything from the previous mdb?

Yes it has data, i even sent you the same file with the data to your personal email.

even i tried opening the zip mdb file from the mail i have sent you, i don't even see data in that application.

Also, as you suggested i tried taking empty mdb and IMPORTed from previous mdb, i got all the objects like tables, forms, pages, macros and so on but no data in the tables.

If you are talking about the TQM Database_Development.mdb then that is your issue. There are no tables in that mdb, only links to tables. All of the tables are in two external mdb's:
    tserver\OLD R & D\CAMS Files\CAMS Program Files\CAMS_BE.mdb
    tserver\OLD R & D\CAMS Files\CAMS Program Files\QA Database_BE.mdb

Thank you very much, that's the reason when i clean up the data it cleared from the these files and could not retrieve any data.
I am so sorry for giving you trouble. Any way we have a back up of these mdb's and I retrieved them back now.
How did you know they are link tables? Thanks again.
