    Exclamation Primary Key Issue

    Hi Guys

This is my first post on this forum, so please go easy on me

I am the secretary of a little community group that has just started in Huddersfield, UK.

The group has a membership program, where people can become members of the group, and thus have news letters sent to them, and be kept up to date with all the events and ativities the group will be up to.

I decided to create a database to store the member's information. I have now done this, but I am having an issue with the Primary Key. It doesn't start from 1 .. instead it starts from 2 !!

How can I fix this ?

    I'd greatly appreciate any help.

    Thank You.

If your Primarykey is an AutoNumber and it is a public piece of information, it shouldn't be public. The public number should be one you control. AutoNumbers are not guaranteed contiguous and in fact have gaps when you delete records.

    OK Thanks RuralGuy

So it is best that I enter the Member ID manually by chaing the Format to Number and not AutoNumber.

    Right ?

The rule of thumb for numerical data is unless you will be using it in a calculation somewhere, make it a string. It is pretty easy to automate an incrementing number with DMax() to save entering it manually. It is your choice.
