Combo Box Wizard does not have option form option

I have been able to create combo boxes linking one form to another. But for some reason, after creating this new form, when I selected to create a combo box via the wizard, the option to select select a record from my form on the value I selected doesn't appear.

I cannot figure out why this option doesn't appear for me now.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The third option, 'Find a record on my form based on the value I selected...' is only available if the Combobox is on a Bound Form. The Access Gnomes have to know the Record Source that contains the matching Record, and an Unbound Form, by definition, doesn't have a Record Source.

So, how do I change my unbound form to become a bound form? Or, where in the properties do I set this?

By binding it to the Table or Query that contains the Records you want to retrieve. Here's a simple tutorial on doing all of this:

If you haven't already done so, create a Form based on your Table or Query, including all the Fields you want displayed; you can use the Forms Wizard if you want.

    Then simply:

    • Add a Combobox to your Form.
    • The Combobox Wizard will pop up
    • Select "Find a record based on the value I selected in my combobox."
    • From the Table or Query the Form is based on, click on the Field you're searching by (a Field that is unique for each Record) to move it to the right side.
    • Hit Next.
    • Size the column appropriately.
    • Hit Next.
    • Name the Combobox something appropriate.
    • Hit Finish.

Now you can drop the Combobox down and scroll down to the item to search by, or you can start to enter the item, and the Combobox will "autofill" as you type. Hit <Enter> and the Record will be retrieved.
