    Unique Identifier beginning with "00"

    Hey guys,

I'm designing a departmental database for a university and the Student id's begin with double zeroes (for eg- 005821248). But when I enter the digits, the zeroes disappear and I'm left with "5821248". I have to have the zeroes in there.

How could I do this? I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Have to make the field a text datatype, otherwise use formatting to display value with the placeholder 00, however, this doesn't change the actual value in table.

Identifier data should always be text field, even if the identifier is composed entirely of digits (with or without punctuation like SSN and phone number).
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

The Rule-of-Thumb is "unless you will be doing math with the number, make it a Text field."
