Linked Excel File opens when I open Access Report

I linked an excel spreadsheet to my access database and created a report that uses that spreadsheet. The problem that I'm having is that if I have the excel spreadsheet open and another user on a different computer opens up the access report, the linked excel spreadsheet will open up as well. How do I stop this from happening?

Also, when another computer has the linked excel spreadsheet opened, anybody who tries to open the Report gets an Error "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data". I tried to make the excel spreadsheet a read-only file to see if that would work but it didn't. Is there anyway to fix this so that even if the spreadsheet is opened, you can still look at the Report?
