Connecting to an Access Database from multiple locations

    So here is the setup.

-I have a accounting database/program that was created with MS Access (Database + Forms).
-I want to be able to access this program from multiple locations over the internet.
-there will only ever be a max of 5 users/different locations connected.
-The database cannot be converted to SQL, or anything else as we didn't create the original program.

-I'm going to purchase a Windows Server to host the database, i would like to know my best west to proceed from that point?
-I've been told VPN+Access is a bad combo. so im guessing thats out the window
-How about Remote Desktop? or VDI (which im guessing would be better as this creates a Virtual Desktop for each user to connect)

    thanks,
    NS

    This is a split design?

The locations will not be on the local network but have only internet connection?

I use Windows RemoteDesktop to log into another server on our agency network. My computer still has to be connected on our local campus network for me to see servers of the wider-area network.

All clients will connect via Internet. There would only be 1 server/Host machine that the 5 clients would connect to to access to program/database.

    Thanks,

Building web database is not within my experience.

    Explore SharePoint and Asp.net.

We don't have access to sourcecode, so ASP.net isn't an option... As is the whole web option. That is why I was looking into the VPN/RDP options.

Don't have access to what sourcecode? Is the database compiled as an executable (accde file)?

I understand VPN has connectivity issues.

I know we have Symantec software on our computers but never really thought what for. Check it out http://www.symantec.com/products-sol...&om_sem_kw=rdp

Yes it is an accde file. Currently it is accessed through a network share (internally). But we want to be able to use the program outside of office. But have access to same database in real time in all locations. Like I said in OP, I was going to use a VPN server, then once connected, we could use a network share to open the DB as if we were on the local network. But VPN connections could lead to corruption issues. So that is why I was thinking a Remote Desktop solution, as the program would always reside and be accessed on the server side (elimnating the VPN downfalls) and more so a Virtual solution as there would only be one server/host that each of the 5 clients would remote into.

I'm looking for more information on the best way to implement this.
