Switch board only allows 4 items

Hope someone can help, i am using the switchboard that comes with access, i read everywhere that normally you can have eight items on each page, i am having trouble that if i have any entry item greater that four will not work, i change the position in the list and it works and the one that i replaced it with which is now the fifth entry the button will not work.
