2 Tables = Control Table & Detail Information

I am fairly new to building databases, however; I need help regarding the creation of a database. Essentially, I am building a reporting system database, where I have one table (Control Table) that holds information regarding the inspection location, date, inspector and comments. I want this table to be linked to the specific observations table (Detail Table), which; contains the observation information.

When I access the (Control Table), I want it to pull up only information contained within that specific report (Detail Table). However; I would like to be able to pull detailed reports from all the observations (Detail Table).

This is probably pretty time consuming, however; I cannot find information regarding formatting a design, such as this? I have Microsoft Access 2010 Bible that I use for reference, to which; I cannot find reference to this particular format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    CBR

What are the primary and foreign key fields that link the tables?

Are you working directly with tables instead of forms and reports?

    Build form/subform arrangement and/or reports.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
