    Sort - of sorts

I have a query which nicely sorts men of an infantry battalion by burial location. The output is, for example, UK - Hampshire - Netley - Netley Military Cemetery - Batt Kelly Ravenhill. So far so good. The report based on the query, however, produces UK - Hampshire - Netley - Netley Military Cemetery - Ravenhill Batt Kelly. and whatever I try I can't get the names sorted. Does anyone have any idea how to get this organised the way I want it? Please note that my computer for some reason does not accept line feeds in vBulletin forum posts which makes the example look a bit confusing.

Have you set up the desired sort in Sorting and Grouping? In 2003 I think it was under View.

The sort order in reports are done in the report, not in a query.
In report design view, click on the menu "VIEW", then click on "Sorting and Grouping". Select the fields you want to sort on, the direction (ASC/DESC), Group Headers/Group Footers.

Gentlemen, thank you for the excellent advice. I never realised that sorting the query wasn't enough. Well. we live and learn. Problem solved.

Happy to help. It would be nice if the default was to follow the sorting in the query, but alas it does not necessarily do so.

I've been using Access since version 1.0, but there's always something new to be discovered. Makes it enjoyable. Once again, thanks for the quick and efficient solution. John
