table relationship: Fill some table fiels and not other fields...

    Hi everyone,

I've got a problem that I do not know how to solve...

Here's my problem: I am in step one: designing table relationships and I don't know who to materialize some relationships (the table accounting).

I want Access to fill some fields in a given table when a type of field is entered somewhere else in another table. It's not very clear so here's an example.

Imagine 3 separate tables and each of them has one field: operation (buy or sell) and type (type1 or type2), reference (amount, etc.) and I've a fourth table (accounting) with many fields. What I want is when for instance, the user enters in operation the value buy and in type type1, the amount from table reference to be filled only in some fields in the table 4, if the user enters sell and typ1, some other fields to be filled in table 4, so on and so forth.

well I attached a file which illustrates somehow what the relationship should look like.

    Thank your help.

Still not clear what you are doing. Sounds like duplication of data. Review this http://forums.aspfree.com/microsoft-...es-208217.html
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Thanks for answering. I'm going to check out the link!

Basically what I want is to store the same value into different fields of a different table taking in consideration some other values which are entered. If A & B than store 100 $ in the fields R & Q; if A & C than store 100$ in the fields X & Z.

the problem is that there's a condition which defines where to store the given value. That's what I'm not understanding how to do.
