    your suggestion with the unbound txtbox & the expression =IIf(IsNull([EmployeeID]),"","ימי") in the control source worked.

    I wasted so many hours trying different options. the only thing I could not understand is why when I used in the VBA console the expression "IsNull(me.controlname.value)" & there was no data I got "false" & when I used the watch method to see the value when running the code it gives a message "<you entered an expression with no value>"?
