    Bigger DB vs Performances

I have a table with all the historical data. To better performe the report I have a tmp table where are stored the orders depending on the range of date selected by the user
I expect to have better performers but the size of DB increase quite much.

should i keep the dm smaller than possible and work on the main table?
The application is used just to produce reports on the base of selected criteria.
I have a couple of million records on the sales table

    What is the performance issue?
Do you do regular compact and repair?
