I can access my database from some Networks but not from others

Sorry for the lame description in the title.

What I mean by this is...There is a database that I utilize for work that I can access from some locations but not from others and I cant figure out why. I can access the database when tethered with my iphone, or connected to wifi at work. I was able to connect from my wifi at my last home where my internet provider was comcast. Now since I have moved to another location and my new provider is Charter I can not access my database from the charter internet connection. The hardware is all the same the only variable is the internet provider...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Eric

    well Eric,

the obviously suggestion would be to check with the ISP to see if they allow remote connections. Wouldn't it? How do you connect?

I connect via wifii in my home.

See if they allow remote connections? I guess I wasn't aware that some ISP's wouldn't allow the use of an database...

I'm not hosting the data base only trying to connect to it.

    Eric,

You're not giving any information at all, sir. You don't just ever "connect" to anything. There are always security settings put in place somewhere. Either on the host end or the server end.

So, good info would be stuff like this my friend:

    • what kind of database is it.
    • do you need credentials to log into it.
    • WIFI connections allowing access to private network databases sounds strange. WIFI networks are public networks available to anyone, usually for free.
    • what happens when you CAN'T log in.

If you work in IT bud, you should know that asking for help and saying "it doesnt work" isn't acceptable...

Also, I do know that some "WIFI" networks are not even free. McDonalds, for instance, is not in this area. You can connect to the public network but you can't get to any URL's unless you pay the fee first. But it seems like you're connected and you should have access. Make sure your problem isn't something simple like that.
