First off - can you explain a little more about what you currently have, whether it is split or not, and how someone would be using the database? The reason I ask is that your request seems a little unusual.

it is not a split DB and it is going to be used for a telephone directory, however the DB has to be available to people on their computers when they are not connected to any networks so i have decided to allow the employees to download the DB to their computer. and i think it would be easiest if i could create a button that would just save the file or update the file when somebody has access to the network.

thank you for any help you can provide
