free hand drawing in access? is it possible

    Hi there,

My scientist client has a MS access 2007 database they use in the field (literally out in the bush) on a Tablet Eee PC with a stylus. Works really well for in field research and data collection. They've asked if it would be possible to add a field where they can use the stylus to "draw" into a box (for drawing rough shapes of streams and things).

I actually can't find a thing about it anywhere and thinking it's not possible? I was wondering if anyone hear had any knowledge of this being done before please?

Our other solution is to just use a Paint program or such form the desktop independently of the Access DB and just marry them up later.

    Any ideas most appreciated...many thanks
    Katie

I don't know of a way to actually have a drawing program "within" Access, but you can merge a drawing into a record. I do this currently with my Access system using .bmp files.

    1. Go to your table that you want to put pictures in Design View

    2. Create a field name "drawings" or whatever you want to name it

    3. In the Data type field, choose OLE object.

    4. Save your table - then open in datasheet view

    5. Right click in the "drawings" field and choose insert Object

    6. Either choose "create new" and choose "Bitmap Image" OR choose create from file and browse for the picture file you are looking for.

    7. Close & Save your table.

You could then add this "Drawings" field to any form or report. You can have a different image for each record. Hope this helps somewhat!
