    datasheet view -word wrap??

    Hi

    Have a form with a sub-form

the sub-form is formatted as dataview

It has a horizontal scroll bar to view the text.

Is there a way to set it to word wrap ie have more lines rather than the horizontal scroll?

    thanks

    Ian

Drag one of the rows so it is taller (the rest will all change along with it). The height you make a row will determine how many lines your wrap will adjust into.

The only other way is to create your own "datasheet view" using two text boxes and continuous forms view. Then you can set the "Inscription" text box to "can grow" if it need to.

    Hi

    struggling with this

tried dragging down the line as suggested but that didn't work

Tried to research creating my own datasheet view using two tables but found nothing.

    However has a thought

could I not set the line content as a hyperlink and then on the onclick event use this code to put it's value into a variable using the macro

    setting a temporary variable

    ie VarInscription=[inscription]

and then use that variable to open up a form based on a query where the criteria is set to

    Code:
    [TempVars]![varInscription]

Or am I just getting to complicated

    thanks

    Ian

My apologies. I missed the fine print about the "Can Grow" property in a form:
This property affects the display of form sections and controls only when the form is printed or previewed, not when the form is displayed in Form view, Datasheet view, or Design view.
Yes, I think you are getting too complicated.

What about using continuous forms view and expanding the Inscriptions text box? You might only see 4 records, but you would be able to read the whole inscription.

Or, again, have the form in continuous forms view, with an enlarged text box in the form footer. Use the text box "on enter" or "got focus" event to copy the inscription text to the unbound text box in the footer. The form "on current" event would have to clear the text box. (one way copy)

    updates changing view

    Hi

many thanks for the ideas problem now solved!!.

However no bodies idea worked I was unable to expand the record and when I changed the view to continuous forms no information was displayed! when I changed it back to datasheet view the information was gone.

So I restored a backup and back came the data.

I decided that you must be correct and I was doing something wrong but despite my repeated attempts nothing worked. I cleaned up the database re booted the pc restarted Access but to no avail.

Then when I had bald patches I again changed the view from datasheet to form view and it all worked!!

No idea why is didn't before as I did nothing other than change the view and resize the box again and again.

    Weird things computers!!

    thanks again

    Ian
