    Access DB working offline

    Hello,

I am a newbie with access.
I wish to develop a Db for multi user usage.
I intend to split my DB to front end and back end.

The DB will be installed in a slow network.
Is there anyway to let the users to import data from the backend
part when the start working and export the data when they finish
    their work ?

I mean - let the users to work offline with the imported data.

    Thank you for your help

    Hello,

    Thank you for your answer.

In the past I developed an excel application and split it to 2 parts
(data part and user interface part). When the user tried to
execute a sql query from the front end side to the back end side it takes ~1 minute. My solution was to copy the backend part to the user local comp so he can work offline. Is it possible to do it with access ?

My user need to view data in his front end part.
My admin need to update the data.

Can I copy the backend to local directory so the user can view data (charts, reports etc) ? Is is possible to replace backend in case admin modify data ?

    Thank you for your help

    Hello,

    Thank you for your answer.

You mean what is the bandwidth of the network ? I do not know.

It's a shared network and the users avoid using it because it takes time
to connect and transfer data over this network.

Can you help me with this information ?

    Thank you

I can but it is my experience that "slow" networks are more a function of questionable design rather than hardware. I'm not sure ac2010 supports Replication any longer but your design will have integration issues. Is you "network" a LAN (internal ethernet) or WAN (external internet)?

That probably makes it the Internet and YES it will be too slow for acceptable performance. Have you or the company looked into one of the Terminal Server services such as Citrix? I doubt you will find other solutions very acceptable but that is just my $0.02.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your answer.

The slow network is something which I should consider when develop my application (It will not be modified by the company).

Do you have any suggestion how to design my application so the back end will be stored in the network but every time the user will open the front end
the data will be copied to his local drive ?

    Thank you for your help

    Hello,

    Another point:
My user wants to 'pack' the application when he goes home -
take the application (front end & back end) and work with it at home off line.
Then return it to the network and update database if needed.

    Is it possible ?

I'm sorry but I have no ideas beyond my current suggestions.
