odbc vista SQL Server 2008 Express Slow

I have an Access 2003 front end linked to SQL Server 2008 Express (on a win XP PC); all is well on XP, windows 7 clients but not on a Vista (limted cpu/RAM) laptop. I use the laptop as a test for performance on customer sites - if response is ok on laptop it should be ok on all customer sites. But the response is not just slow it grinds to a halt. Other network access between my XP PC and Vista is ok, eg sharing files. I have ocbd setup using Native Client 10 and have tried tcp/ip and named pipes. I have UAC off, and windows Firewall off. The ODBC settings pass the test usually, can sometimes fail on first attempt. I think it might be a Vista networking issue - unfortunately I dont have a 2nd Vista PC to test with just now.

    Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

when I use Access as front end to a SQL server I often ran into problems when the Access version was lower then the SQL server version. So far I never used the express version though, so I don't know if this suffers the same problems.

In your case it looks like it is the connection that is slow. Have you tried installing another version of the ODBC driver yet?

    greetings

Hi, Yes I have installed the SQL Server Native Client 10.0.
It must be something pretty fundamental as my bound forms never load ! (exactly same mdb on other PC's is ok).
