    Inventory management

Hello, just looking for some advice regarding a asset/inventory database. As a base point I was going to use one of the templates in access, but then add maintenance schedules, booking logs for users, etc, but not sure where to start. For the maintenance most equipment will need calibration/servicing on a 3,6 or 12 month cycle. I don't want to overwrite each calibration period for each item but store the log for say 10 years if that makes sense? Then how do I book out equipment and link to the loanee and loan out for a set time, say 1 month. Then at the end of the loan period have popup as a reminder to email the loanee.

If you're going to roll your own then perhaps some of the db schemas listed here will help.

Perhaps use browser to search for 'equipment' and 'library' as there are several examples of each. I mention library because it involves loaning. You could think of a book as a tool item when considering.

IMO you have a rather large project ahead of you. I imagine it will include asset inventory; PM and repair work order generation, tracking and completion; calibration management; asset tracking at least.

The more I think about it, yes it will be a big project. I don't want to reinvent the wheel so may look to purchase something closer to what I need then add a few more details. Any recommendations of any known access designs out there welcome.

It's a subject I'm quite familiar with having been an equipment specialist (all sorts of maintenance and PM work order stuff was involved) and a compliance auditor during part of my career. I started a db that encompassed tool calibration, document & record control and environmental aspects & impacts but that was a while ago (Access 97). I'd have to drag out my old laptop just to be able to open that stuff! Maybe somebody knows of an off the shelf product, but you'll likely need access to the source code and all objects that are in it so that you can alter to suit. Sometimes it's just easier to build your own, or if time doesn't permit, hire a consultant and start from the ground up.

    Hi Micron
Unfortunately time and money is not on my side, at this moment anyway. If you have access to your old database I wouldn't mind a look if possible. Something off the shelf at a reasonable cost is probably my best option.
