help! all but forms and queries are gone?

    Hi

I got a message from someone in another office to say that she could not generate a report, so she restarted the database and got the following error: The form name "Index" is misspelled or refers to a form that doesn't exist

I can still use the database fine but when I opened a second instance of the database, I got the same message. I clicked OK and can see that all forms, reports, macros and modules have disappeared from the list.

Has anybody any idea how this could have occurred and how it could be fixed? I daren't close my instance of DB now as I don't think I'll get it back, seems weird that it's working so normally in one place though.

thanks for advising of the cross post - always appreciated

it sounds like you may have a corrupt db. How is it set up? Is it split? does each user have their own copy of the front end? If not, there is a strong possibility it is now corrupted

Is the dB split into a FE and BE? And everyone has a COPY of the FE on their computer?
Or is there one dB file on a server/file share that everyone opens and runs?

Should your title say 'tables and queries'?

    You have a backup copy?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

oops yeah it should say tables and queries.

It was set up years ago, maybe 2003/4. it is split into front and back end, both are stored on the server and accessed via a shortcut.

The last backup we have is from early January. It's not the end of the world if we have to restore from then but I'm hoping the fact the tables and queries are in tact means we can keep them and only need to restore what's missing, the parts that haven't changed in the last month.

For further info, i tried to export the forms from the instance I had open and it told me I didn't have permission to (I should...). I then got the same error message as my colleague and no longer have the complete version accessible.

this implies your users are sharing the front end which is a big no no. At least being split, your backend should be OK, but your front end is almost certainly toast and you will not be able to recover it. Assuming your front end has not been modified, just replace it with your backup.

But, you must modify the way you have it set up. Each user should have their own copy of the front end on their local machine, otherwise you will get a repeat experience. I'm surprised it would appear to have been running for 13/14 years without issue.
