We really need to know if it is a database password or user level security.
If you converted the MDB to a ACCDB then is is probably a database
password.
Hi i am not sure what the security is. when it loads it asks me for the password and then works fine it just will not let me remove the password.
If i open it in the exclusive mode i put in the password and the i get to option to set a password.
But whatever i enter it say not a valid password if i try and set a new one.
So does this mean it might be user level security
I enter data into this database on a daily basis and i have some old backups and it will let me remove the password from them ok if i use my computer running acccess 2007 but not the latest version.
Regards to you all
Hope you can help
Does it open the same if you hold down a <SHIFT> key? Do you have an AutoExec Macro?
Hi yes it does still open if i hold down a Shift key
And i have no Macro's running at all not that i know about.
And if i open the database and go to File then Info it says it is a .acdb file.
Then the only option on the right is to create a password not remove it, if i try and add a password it say invalid password.
As i have said above i have an old backup and it lets me remove the password ok but i have lost all the latest data i have input.
Does it still ask for a password when you open it while holding down a <SHIFT> key?
I am not sure what you mean by <SHIFT> is it just the normal shift keys
I have tried both the normal shift keys and yes it does still ask for the password.
Regards
No! Either shift key will bypass the startup if it has not been disabled.
Ok well it does still ask for the password with the shift key held down.
I think the database file must be faulty as it works fine just will not let me remove or change the password
Is there a Startup Form? Do you have a Macro named AutoExec? Can you see the Database window after you open the db? Is there anything else besides changing the password that you *cannot* do?
Hi not sure what you mean about a startup form ans as far as i know there are no marcro running at all.
Not sure what you mean about the database window, and no all i want to do is remove the password
Regards
Can you see all of the tables and forms, etc. Can you open them in design mode?
Yes i can see them and open and change all the forms, tables, reports it works fine with everything just will not let me remove the password.
Have you tried importing the db into a fresh db and see if the security follows?
Yes i have tried on my laptop with a new instalation of access
