Angry Insert line in Macro editor -2013

    Just upgraded from 2007 t0 2013.
Really can't stand the new macro editor.
I used to be able to document nicely and see the flow, now it is so cluttered it's almost useless for documentation.

I can't seem to figure out how to insert a line?
I am sure it's right in front of me.

I sure its just wishful thinking but - any way of going back to the old editor?

AFAIK, only if you want to go back to 2007.

    Time to learn VBA?

    Might be worth it!

    Trying to learn vba

But I'll settle for knowing how to insert a line in the new most excellent macro editor for now.

I don't routinely use macros but I have worked with them. I don't really know what you mean by 'insert a line'. Exactly what do you need this macro to do?

Has nothing to do with macro function.

    its an editor function.
I have a long macro I need to edit.
I just want to insert a new line between 2 other lines.

This should be intuitive, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this simple task.

I have to put it in at the bottom and then move it up line by line to put it in the right place.

I do not work with Macros much, either. However, I believe that this is the solution.

By a 'new line' do you mean a new action? Yes, as far as I can tell, new action will be added at bottom then move by clicking the green arrow. There is no 'insert' capability.

    Thanks,

Nothing like an upgrade that's actually a downgrade.
Are others as unhappy with this new editor as I am?
Any buzz about changing it in 2016?

No idea if changed in 2016 to allow insertion.

One way to learn VBA is to use the conversion tool to convert embedded macros to VBA. Study the resulting code.

    That is a great suggestion!

Spent about 10 hrs on it yesterday.
Slow going but starting to make some real progress.

I have written a complete production system for my woodworking business including generating g code (post processor) for the cnc and interface to quickbooks.
I have always just used macros and when I could not I just googled scrips and modified them.

Just never had the time to stop and learn.
There come a time when it just worth it now is that time!

    Thanks again

I know this is an old post but damn, do I agree with you! The "new and improved" macro functionality is a joke. To the guillotine for them that designed it!

Don't use the Xero accounting system then.
Users are up in arms about the new bill page layout, which makes work take much longer and that is meant to be rolled out over the rest of the platform.

They are stubbornly refusing to acknowledge they have cocked up big time.

I use it for a couple of clients - a charity and an internet trader, but only to store data. For the former all data entry and reporting is done in access. For the latter Xero is auto updated from sites like Amazon - but reporting is still done in access

It may have been started seven years ago but, all the complaints you made then is still just as valid today. Like you, I absolutely hate the new macro editor and would love to see a return to 2007 or earlier configuration.

I saw the post and responded to it because it’s still relevant.

I didn’t see it until now, but had I seen it seven years ago I would’ve responded then as well.
