    I did!

    RunningTotal: DSum("[TotalQty]","[BoM_ITemAnalysis_T]","[ID]<= " & [ID] & " And [Component] = '" & [Component] & "'")

    So, it appears the delay is the time Access is cycling through the records. There are alot, (approx 150K) and assuming it is because it has to recalculate each record as it is performing a running total.

    I'm struggling with finding a better method to get this data and analyze it.

    Did you try building a report and use RunningSum property of textbox?

    Also review http://allenbrowne.com/AppInventory.html

    Google "Access report with opening/beginning/starting balance" - here is one

    If performance is an issue

    1. Check all fields used in criteria and sorting are indexed
    2. consider using a sub query instead of a domain query (dsum) they are faster
    3. You may find using a non standard join instead can be faster still

    on my phone so cannot provide examples at the moment
