Design suggestions to expand a specific field in a form?

I have a form that looks at individual customer complaints one at a time. There's a long text field that I hoping could be 'expanded' by the user at any time.

What I mean is that the user can press a command and a modal form pops up showing only that long text field for that specific record.

I've found online that this is feasible but I haven't had any luck finding an explicit guide to how to do this. I have a separate modal form created with just this field, but unsure how to link it all up.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Have you considered using a zoom box? Just select the complaint, hold down the shift key and press F2

and another one for a bigger zoombox

I did. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I was trying to come up with a more user friendly version. A zoom box would work for me, but a lot of other users use the form. They'd likely forget almost immediately that 'shift+f2' will expand, plus the user also needs to manually increase the size of the zoom box every time. A command with a modal form seemed much simpler for the users (but obviously more difficult for me to create versus a zoom box). I don't think a command can call a zoom box

Have a look at this thread where there are a couple of samples with custom popups:
