    Use lookup fields or no?

Years ago when I took Access training, the lookup fields were discussed and encouraged.
I see modern training and apps that still use them.

How shocking to run across this:
The Access Web - The Evils of Lookup Fields in Tables (mvps.org)

Do newer versions of Access overcome these complaints based on earlier versions of Access?

Lacking was a suggestion on how best to design and implement if one is going to avoid the use of lookup fields in tables.

Any practical ideas, since I'm still learning the theoretical best practices?

Use a lookup Table which is basically what access is doing behind the scenes when you use a lookup field.

    Hi
Always create a separate table that contains a List of any sort. This becomes the Lookup Table to be used
when you create a Combobox on your Data Input form.
This stores the ID Autonumber of the value selected.
You can PM me if you need further help.

Echoing the previous responses, I'd say NO to "Do newer versions of Access overcome these complaints based on earlier versions of Access?"

I would never use a lookup field, but virtually every db I build uses lookup tables.
