Count Query is Counting Records Twice

    Hey guys,

This one has me stumped. I create a little Access database to automatically count user actions made in our data entry software. Basically you have a username and then action type. I count how many total actions each user entered for the month.

I set up a count query in Access to give me these totals. It worked great except for one user. Their count was 56 instead of 28. I noticed 56 is exact twice the amount as 28. I went back to the table data and filtered for this user. It only had 28 records! So how in the world is Access coming up with twice the amount?

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? I took the same data in Excel and did a pivot table and it counted 28 for that user. So it's nothing wrong with the data. And I have the same number of total records in my Access DB so nothing is duplicated.

No sooner did I post this, I found the solution. My query linked to a second table that had this person's username listed twice so the join was causing it to be counted again. I removed the duplicate entry in the table and it now shows 28.

Thanks for coming back and posting that you solved it and how.
