    ODBC to SQL contained database


    Short question like in the subject How can You connect from MS Access to SQL contained database using ODBC. Can You do that with contained database user ?

    open odbc app
    add
    enter NAME you want to see. usu the database
    DESCRIPTION
    SERVER
    next btn
    next btn
    check the box, CHANGE DEFAULT TO
    set your table.
    next btn
    FINISH

    Then in Access: external data
    odbc database , (or NEW DATA SOURCE, from other sources, ODBC)
    LINK DATA SOURCE
    select the odbc NAME you gave above
    select table

    There are two ways to connect access to SQL using ODBC.

    1. Without coding, you could click on external source and browse to the odbc file. If it’s not created, type odbc in windows 10 search bar and you will get a window wizard to create one.
    2. You can use vba codes to auto link it but this method is more complex.

    No matter which method you use you will need access to the sql server database. Your database administrator should be able to assist you if you need access.
