The 'object' on the left is called the navigation pane.

no. I should have a double line to be able to stretch it but my single line does not want to move anything.
    thank you

It sounds as if it's disabled because a modal form is open.
Can you upload a screen shot?

not quite sure how to close a modal form.
I was using Access 2010 win win7, and copied and pasted my db on a external hard disk and then on this computer win 10 Access 2016
I hope that the screen shot will work.
    thanks

Put the code in a standard module and then run it to expand the navigation pane.

However, looking at your screenshot, your navigation pane looks OK. All you need to do is drag the vertical border line to the right as already suggested

Click the down arrows to expand the contents of each section (tables/forms etc)

How wide do you need it to be?

Why not make a copy with no data and see if that works?. If not, upload here and see if someone can widen it?

That was going to be my suggestion as well.
For info, when using my tablet, I don't get a double headed arrow cursor either but the outline is still draggable
