Likely there's always the verbal diarrhea of political and social bs at AWF if you're bored...

Every couple of months or so, I logout at AWF and have a brief look at some of the extremist garbage that pollutes the politics & watercooler sections.
That is more than enough to confirm that I was right to block those sections last year.
It hasn't got any better since then

I blocked the politics one as soon as the feature became available, and haven't looked since.
I ignore 95% of the watercooler ones as well, as they almost always trundle down a similar path.

In fact, I think on that basis I'm going to add that to my ignore list as well.

It's sorta like a bad accident. You can't help looking and even worse when you get sucked back into it.

I agree. Basically I'm 'rubbernecking' every couple of months to remind myself how toxic an environment it can be.
But because I've logged out first, I can't post so never get sucked back in.
When I do log back in, I can no longer view the blocked areas. Perfect!

Agree 100%. I recognize that some need a spot to vent and expound their ideas (or misconceptions) but I don't participate - have ignored politics, and really only go to watercooler when someone posts a joke.

There's all that, and the scenario when you're trying to help someone with guidance and along comes the usual spoon feeders with a complete db solution. Plus there are those (e.g. pH 0 - and you will have to figure out who that is) whose attitude is that their way is the only way, and don't you dare call them out if they make a blanket statement that isn't accurate or true.

I left there several years ago when the watercooler got racist and anti-Semitic. No regrets and not looking back.

I'm also disappointed in that other forum, and not just due to the ugly politics. Quite often they'll ask the OP "why they are doing it that way, you should do it like this, you have a poor design" etc. We've all had to work on systems that originated elsewhere & have to manage with what we've got.

    Jack,
Doing well. Retirement is great. Moved to the mountains and doing lots of hiking and skiing.
