Unhappy Asset Tracking Template. How to key in same name item in the form as the new item.

    Hi peeps!
I'm a newbie here. I'm using Microsoft Access Asset tracking template.

I use it by key in the new item for example; I key in "Sofa" as my first asset. Later on, I key in again the "Sofa" as my second asset with different details to show this is the different sofa. Not the first sofa.. However, in the table section, there will be only one sofa which is just the updated detail version. The table doesn't count my new entry as 2nd sofa. How to make sure the table recognise it as different item even though it has the same name?Enable GingerCannot connect to Ginger Check your internet connection

You need a unique value. Usual way is to use an auto number primary key for the ‘asset type’ which might be in a different table

Alternatively use sofa1 and sofa2 as your description

Not enough information to direct you further but Sounds like you are not aware of the need for normalisation. Suggest google ‘database normalisation’ to find out more

That's odd. The assets table uses an autonumber as primary key. Item is indexed with duplicates OK. I'm able to enter multiple items with the same name with no problem. Perhaps best for you to post your DB here to allow analysis for why yours is different.
